Charline von Heyl Charline von Heyl (born 1960) is a German abstract painter. She also works with drawing, printmaking, and collage. She moved to the United States in the 1990s, and has studios in New York City and in Marfa, Texas. Charline von Heyl I started out as a painter in an environment where painting was something very powerful and I actually never lost that feeling. I never doubted painting. Charline von Heyl is a German-born artist, New York-based for many years, who makes paintings and works on paper which are wildly different each from the next. Uninterested in developing a consistent “style,” she’s instead made a kind of syncretism or polymorphousness her modus operandi.

New York-based artist Charline von Heyl has said that her reason for painting is because she "desires to invent an image that has not yet been seen." Her dynamic abstract canvases combine vivid color, confusion of fore and background, and gestures of opposing speeds, suggesting Wassily Kandinsky or Arshile Gorky while not unified in any one style.
